Psalm 30:3-5 “O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
Dear Readers: I would like to congratulate my fellow Patriots fans. What a thrilling game! I am going to be honest with you folks… I was praying throughout the game. I jumped for joy and hooted and hollered every time the Pats scored. Sometimes we fans get so enthralled that it is as if we worship our favorite team. There’s nothing wrong with having a favorite team and wanting them to win, as long as we put even more effort into praising the Lord. I wonder… how many Christians get more excited watching football than they do in church? Jesus Christ has a team. The Lord wants all of us to be part of His team. His team wins every game. His is undefeated. For now and for all time, Jesus is M.V.P. [Most Valuable Partner]. In fact, everyone on team Jesus is an M.V.P. because He values all of us. Unlike the Superbowl, there are no close games with Jesus. Victory is swift, assured and absolute. Jesus is willing to pay those who sign with Him the highest salary in existence – Eternal Life! Not just any life, but the life of a king. Praise God! It’s okay to celebrate and cheer and eat food, drink libations and have fun with family and friends while watching your favorite team. Only ask yourself… Do I get as excited for the Lord? Am I as grateful as I ought to be? Do I throw parties in His Holy Name? If you answered “No” to any of those questions, then I suggest you check yourself. We have one God and He deserves all the praise and glory. He is our light, our hope and our Savior. God is everything that is anything. It’s okay to throw Superbowl parties, just don’t forget Jesus. Take time and celebrate Him. Get together with friends and family and throw a party in remembrance of Him. Do not worship false idols that will one day perish. Worship the eternal glory of the Lord. if you are not saved, then join team Jesus and know victory for life. Jesus is our biggest fan. We should be His as well. So, the next time you are rooting for your favorite sports team, ask yourself if you praised God today. The next time you don a t-shirt or jersey promoting your favorite sports team, ask “Have I promoted my Lord?” I have had to ask myself those questions on many occasions. In all our excitement, we must remember to put God first. He should be first in all that we do.
Praise God! Hallelujah! Amen!
May God Bless and Keep You! May Team Jesus Reign Forever!
Go Red Sox!
